Introduction

This guide was made to help people have the most immersive experience possible while watching the anime.

Originally, it started as a light novel series written by NisiOisiN in 2005, receiving an anime adaptation by Studio SHAFT in 2009. Alongside the main novels, the author produced what is known as 短物語 (Short Stories)—supplemental pieces that offer valuable context for specific arcs in both the anime and the light novels. These short stories will be crucial in this guide and are detailed immediatly following the "Anime Watch Order" section.

There are also audio commentaries (also written by NisiOisiN), which consist of two characters commenting on a specific anime episode. Even though these often contain interesting facts, they are recommended for enthusiasts only, as they are merely optional. These will be included in the anime download (more on that in the anime section).

Anime Watch Order

Making this order is necessary because Studio SHAFT (the animation studio) had to release some arcs out of order due to time constraints and japanese television restrictions.

In this case, the guide follows the light novel release order, as it preserves both the creator's narrative progression and Studio SHAFT's intended broadcast order.

Short Stories

These short stories follow a specific order, so after finishing an arc, come back to this section to check if there's something you need to read.

Terminology note: While the anime translates 怪異 as "oddities", these short stories follow the official light novel translation, "aberrations".
